A four minute walk from the village of Cassis’ breathtakingly gorgeous, pastel fishing harbor sits Domaine du Bagnol. This is one of the oldest and most celebrated independent, family-owned wineries in the region, and perhaps most beloved for today’s wine, the rare and perennially sought after Cassis Rosé.Whether it’s at the beach, on a boat, or shared on a sunset balcony alongside your closest companion, this wine is built to transform every warm season occasion into a cherished memory. This is always one of those special bottles that creates good times and revelry out of thin air!
Every summer, the global elite chart a course for a short list of gated, uber exclusive French Riviera destinations like Cap d'Antibes and Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. But I personally prefer the quieter, less ostentatious “petite Riviera” charm of nearby Cassis. This small, quintessentially French seaside fishing village has it all: Pastel colored waterfront restaurants, small sailboats gently bobbing in the harbor, and warm waves slowly breaking on the gravel beachfront. One could easily walk this village’s promenade and never know that a mere 500 feet away sits one of the most revered rosé producing estates in all of Provence. If you’ve never enjoyed a bottle of Domaine du Bagnol Rosé - and frankly, most people haven’t because this wine is perennially snatched up by restaurants upon release - I urge you to hit the “buy” button today. This is one of the most reliably and effortlessly pleasurable bottles of Provence rosé you’ll ever encounter.
I’d be hard pressed to name another Provence Rosé that better exemplifies the appellation of Cassis’ singular limestone terroir. This bottle absolutely bursts with citrus pith energy and bright red fruit. A product of 50% Grenache, 30% Cinsault, and 20% Mourvèdre, this wine is direct pressed with turbo speed (2 hours) to maximize energy and aroma while extracting minimal color and tannin.
In the glass, the 2025 Domaine du Bagnol Cassis Rosé shows a pale, luminous pink hue. The nose opens with underripe mountain berries, red currant, lime blossom, white peach blossom, sea spray and crushed white stone. On the palate it is bone dry and supremely balanced, but absolutely jumping out of the glass with gregarious, gulpable energy - this is an expertly executed wine, but it is not “serious” or austere by any measure. Let’s just call it what it is: a chic, luxurious party wine. Enjoy now in a large Bordeaux glass at 50 degrees, as a perfect companion to seafood stew or grilled langoustines, but don’t discriminate: great rosé is built no differently that a great white, and this bottle has the structure and balance to continue drinking beautifully over the next 12–48 months.
